Our beautiful campus, situated in the serene hills of Kinyamasika, provides an ideal environment for prayer, study, and community life. Here, young men from across East Africa discern their calling to the priesthood while receiving comprehensive formation that prepares them for a lifetime of service.
We invite you to discover the rich tradition of priestly formation that has shaped hundreds of priests who now serve with distinction across Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan, and beyond. At St Paul's Seminary, we don't just educate minds – we form hearts, souls, and pastoral leaders for the Church of tomorrow.
Our Mission: To form holy, learned, and zealous priests through integral formation that develops the spiritual, intellectual, pastoral, and human dimensions of future clergy, preparing them to serve the Church in Uganda and beyond with excellence and dedication.
Our Vision: To be a premier center of priestly formation in East Africa, renowned for producing priests of outstanding character, deep spirituality, and pastoral competence who will transform communities through their ministry.
Our formation program is built on four foundational pillars that ensure comprehensive preparation for priestly ministry: spiritual formation that deepens relationship with God, intellectual development through rigorous academic study, human maturity through community living and personal growth, and pastoral competence through practical ministry experience.
St Paul's National Major Seminary was established in 1962 by the Catholic Bishops of Uganda as a response to the growing need for well-formed indigenous clergy. Named after St. Paul the Apostle, the great missionary and teacher, our seminary has remained faithful to its founding vision of excellence in priestly formation.
Over the decades, we have graduated hundreds of priests who now serve in parishes, schools, hospitals, and various Church institutions throughout Uganda and East Africa. Many of our alumni have risen to positions of leadership within the Church, including bishops, vicars general, and parish priests.
Our rich tradition of academic excellence, spiritual depth, and pastoral sensitivity continues to attract young men from diverse backgrounds who feel called to serve God and His people as ordained ministers of the Gospel.
Our comprehensive academic program spans six years, beginning with two years of philosophy and culminating with four years of theological studies. The curriculum is carefully designed to provide a solid intellectual foundation for priestly ministry while remaining relevant to contemporary pastoral challenges.
The philosophy program covers ancient, medieval, and modern philosophy, with special attention to Thomistic philosophy and its relevance to Christian theology. Our theology program includes systematic theology, biblical studies, moral theology, liturgical studies, canon law, and pastoral theology.
We maintain academic partnerships with prestigious Catholic universities in Rome and other centers of learning, ensuring that our standards meet international benchmarks. Our qualified faculty members hold advanced degrees from renowned institutions.
Life at St Paul's Seminary is structured around prayer, study, and community living. Our daily schedule begins with Morning Prayer and Mass, creating a foundation of worship that sustains all other activities. Regular times for personal prayer, adoration, and spiritual reading help seminarians develop a deep relationship with Christ.
Community life is an essential aspect of formation, as seminarians learn to live together in harmony, mutual respect, and fraternal charity. Meals are taken in common, fostering brotherhood and providing opportunities for relaxation and friendly conversation.
The seminary environment encourages personal growth, intellectual development, and spiritual maturity. Regular conferences with spiritual directors, academic advisors, and formation staff provide guidance and support throughout the formation journey.
Spiritual formation is at the heart of our seminary program. We believe that priests must first be men of prayer and deep relationship with Jesus Christ before they can effectively minister to others. Our spiritual program includes daily Mass, Liturgy of the Hours, monthly retreats, and regular spiritual direction.
Seminarians are encouraged to develop various forms of prayer including meditation, contemplation, devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, and Marian devotion. Special attention is given to formation in liturgical celebration, preaching, and the administration of the sacraments.
The spiritual life is integrated with academic studies and pastoral practice, ensuring that future priests develop a unified vision of their calling and ministry.
Practical pastoral training prepares seminarians for the realities of priestly ministry. During vacation periods and designated pastoral years, seminarians work in parishes, hospitals, schools, and other Church institutions under the guidance of experienced priests and pastoral supervisors.
Our pastoral program includes training in preaching, counseling, youth ministry, catechetics, administration of sacraments, and parish management. Seminarians learn to work with people of all ages and backgrounds, developing the pastoral skills necessary for effective ministry.
Special emphasis is placed on understanding the social, economic, and cultural contexts in which priests will minister. Seminarians are prepared to address contemporary challenges with Gospel wisdom and pastoral sensitivity.
Our beautiful campus in Kinyamasika provides an ideal environment for priestly formation. The seminary buildings include modern classrooms, a well-equipped library with over 15,000 volumes, computer laboratories, recreation facilities, and comfortable dormitories.
The seminary farm provides fresh produce for the community while offering seminarians practical experience in agricultural work. Sports facilities include football fields, basketball courts, and other recreational areas that promote physical fitness and community building.
Our peaceful rural setting, surrounded by rolling hills and gardens, creates an atmosphere conducive to reflection, study, and spiritual growth. The natural beauty of the location inspires contemplation and helps seminarians develop an appreciation for God's creation.
